PHOTO-ETCHED ALBUMS AND JOURNALS: Starting with a piece of copper (this can also be done with brass and silver), a high contrast picture, design, or
phrase, is transferred by heat from an photo-copied onto acetate or thin clear plastic film to the metal.
The metal, image side immersed, is then placed in an acid bath which eats away some of the metal that is not
covered by the image. The photo-etched plate is then cleaned and may be treated with one of many patina techniques
and/or have certain parts cut out from the pattern. Finally, the plate is riveted onto the book cover. The rivets, part
of which are on the inside cover, are generally metal shapes complementing the cover plate. This process can
also be applied to jewelry, bookmarks, and other metal sculpture. Albums and journals can also be made to order. |
